An inquiry is continuing after police officers shot dead a man who was brandishing a sword and shotgun in the street.
Jason Gifford, 27, was shot after Thames Valley Police officers surrounded a house in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, on Monday. Mr Gifford had been visiting his estranged wife at her home in Orwell Drive when he came out and ran at police with the weapons - and was shot in the stomach by the marksmen. He was taken to Stoke Mandeville Hospital where he died some hours later.
A statement issued by the Police Complaints Authority said: “A phone call was made to Milton Keynes Police call centre reporting a man had threatened to shoot someone with a gun. “The officers witnessed a woman run from a house and several shots were made from inside the building. “A man came out of the house allegedly threatening to shoot someone. “The officers tried to negotiate with him however the man was shot in the stomach.”
No one else was injured during the shooting, it was confirmed, and a firearm was found at the scene. Neighbours said they had heard shots and saw police standing over the man.
